*I don’t know the official name of this certain model yet. It will replace the Toyota Comfort.

This looks kinda like if you mixed a Ford Transit Connect with a hearse.

So no one is gonna comment about how it’s a Toyota pastiche of a London cab?

Love the big windows! I hope they put the hybrid engine in it. (That is the HSD logo in the second picture, right?) Taxicab service and hybrid engines are a good match. If they moved the steering wheel and the rear-view mirrors, I’d rather have one of those than any SUV sold in the U.S.A.
Of course Toyota will never sell that car in the U.S.A., because the majority of American buyers don’t want good cars, they want bloated, butched-up crap.

Hybrid drivetrains have proven to be very reliable and durable. The Prius has become the #3 or #4 taxi cab of choice in Germany.

Does anyone still produce London cabs in the UK? I’m not too sure about that.

So you’re telling me there will be an influx of cheap decommissioned Comforts that can be used to convert them into TRD Comfort GT-Z clones?

I had forgotten about Geely owning them, they do in fact build them in Coventry. Chinny Raccoon reminded me

Based on this shot from the original 2013 concept’s photo gallery (which is of the Gen 3 Prius drivetrain):
As well as some other info, I’m thinking it’s getting a Gen 4 Prius drivetrain, running on LPG. (No point releasing the new product with the old powertrain that’s less efficient.)

I’m excited to see these replacing the ones we have in Hong Kong. The Comforts are good, but they’re getting quite long in the tooth. And with HK’s terrible pollution, hybrid power would be quite useful in the city as traffic rarely goes fast enough to engage the ICE. And if it does, hopefully it’ll run on LPG.

I read that Toyota will experiment with different drivetrains.
